FIRST DEGREE MURDER

Tom Ward represented the client at jury trial and successfully asserted a defense theory that the defendant had been mistakenly identified. Our client was acquitted of all charges.

FIRST DEGREE MURDER

Our client was charged in a nine year old “cold case” homicide in Jefferson County. At trial, the prosecution presented several days of DNA evidence as well as the eyewitness testimony of the defendant’s brother.

RESULT

Tom Ward represented the client at trial, resulting in a hung jury on the charge of First Degree Murder. Tom later negotiated a disposition that allowed the client to avoid a mandatory life without parole sentence. This case was featured on CBS’ 48 Hours.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

A Denver educator was charged with sexually assaulting a student at his school.

RESULT

Tom Ward brought the case to jury trial that resulted in a hung jury. 11 of the 12 jurors had voted to acquit the defendant, and the district attorney decided to dismiss all charges against the client rather than try the case again.

SEXUAL ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

A college student under investigation for inappropriate sexual relations with a minor.

RESULT

Tom Ward negotiated with the district attorney and was able to avoid the filing of a felony complaint. Instead, the Client was referred to a diversion program with no criminal charges being filed.

WHITE COLLAR – EMBEZZLEMENT

A young Denver man charged with Embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a charitable organization for which he worked.

RESULT

Tom Ward represented the client and was able to negotiate a settlement that kept the client’s record clear of criminal convictions. Upon successful completion of a probationary period, the client’s case will be dismissed entirely.

FEDERAL BANK ROBBERY INDICTMENT

A young man charged in United States District Court with committing a bank robbery in Englewood. He was facing a sentence of up to 20 years.

RESULT

Tom Ward represented the client and filed motions to suppress evidence. After a pre-trial hearing, the judge ordered that the bulk of the evidence against our client was suppressed and could not be used at trial. Faced with the loss of some of their most critical evidence, attorneys for the government agreed to settle the case with a sentence of less than two years.
